What you need to know:
- We “have defeated Covid -19”, time now to beat opponents on the pitch.
- K’Ogalo Corner declares it’s time to restart the drum beats - Gor Biro, Yawne Yo.
We have missed K’Ogalo on the pitch.
The chants of Gor Biro, Yawne Yo, the drum beats of Mayienga have been silent for the last seven months since the Kenyan Premier League was stopped due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Coronavirus came and robbed us one of our best weekend entertainment- that is Gor Mahia.
While the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) declared Gor Mahia champions, handing us our unprecedented 19th league title, the celebrations were muted as we would have loved to lift the title on the pitch, just like we have done since 1968.
But alas, there is some hope of football returning. FKF has set October 23 as the date for resumption of football activities. How I cannot wait for the league to kick off, how I cannot wait to don my Green Army jersey again.... and how I cannot wait to see our boys pick up from where they left - tormenting and beating our opponents like AFC Leopards and Bandari haplessly and with impunity.
It is sad what our players have gone through over the last seven months, no pay due to lack of a sponsor and no play due to coronavirus, but thank God, we now have a sponsor on board and the players will be smiling all the way to be bank once the league resumes.
I commend the office for the a job well done in signing new and quality players for the new season. We may have lost our defender Joash “Berlin Wall” Onyango to Simba, but the office has ensured we have able replacements to fill that position.
We will be representing the country again in the Caf Champions League and we look forward to an even better performance this time round with the kind of squad that has been assembled.
Meanwhile, as the players prepare to resume training in the coming days, we, the Green Army are organising ourselves to restart the drum beats.
