Homeboyz Rugby Club will not take part in this year’s Kenya Cup Rugby League.

The club’s chairman Mike Rabar announced Monday that they are unable to meet the Ministry of Health’s Covid-19 protocols, but confirmed that they will not break camp.

Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) have been forced to revise the fixtures and format after Mwamba, Impala Saracens and Nondescripts rejoined the top flight league.

The league entered its second round on Saturday with Kabras Sugar Rugby Club staying at the top with 10 points after disposing of Strathmore Leos 35-9 at the Impala Sports Club.

Holders KCB Rugby Club are second, but also with 10 points after they battled to silence Kenya Harlequin 35-32 at the RFUEA grounds.

Nakuru scaled one place to third with eight points following their second consecutive victory, beating Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) 23-10 at the Nakuru Athletic Club.

Menengai Oilers dropped one place to fourth with seven points after they were forced to a 12-12 draw by hosts Blak Blad from Kenyatta University at the RFUEA grounds.

“The health of our players comes first. It is needless to have them play when they are not ready after a short pre-season period,” said Rabar, adding that they will field a team when the National Sevens Series starts.

Impala Sports Club will host a double header in round three matches.

Mwamba and Blak Blak clash at 1pm, before paving way for the Ngong Road derby pitting hosts Impala Saracens against their neighbours Kenya Harlequin starting at 3pm.

Quins will be seeking a reprieve after they lost their two opening matches; 39-13 against Menengai Oilers and 35-32 against KCB.

The third fixture will be the Nakuru derby between Menengai Oilers and Nakuru at the Moi Showground in Nakuru.  Nondescripts will take a rest alongside Strathmore Leos, MMUST, KCB and Kabras Sugar.

The league will have nine teams and will be played in round robin format where the top four teams will qualify for the semifinal on May 29 followed by the final on June 5.

All the matches will be played behind closed doors in line with Covid-19 regulations from the ministry of health.
