Lagoussis tops Nyali golf event

What you need to know:

  • Playing off handicap 28, Lagoussis carded 20 points in the front nine and made an excellent start at the back nine where she birdied the 10th, followed it with a par at the par five-11th, and par four-12th and later 15th
  • Muthaiga vice captain James Ondigo was the best guest with 32 points. Major General Peter Waweru was second on 29 and Dominic Ooko was the staff winner with 25 points beating Philip Kiplagat on countback
  • Judy Waihenya was the best lady on 37 and she won by one point from S.M. Patel.

Frances Lagoussis, one of the long serving lady golfers at Nyali Golf and Country Club, produced an excellent score of 41 points to win the overall title in the Communications Authority of Kenya (CAK) tournament in Nyali at the weekend.

Playing off handicap 28, Lagoussis carded 20 points in the front nine and made an excellent start at the back nine where she birdied the 10th, followed it with a par at the par five-11th, and par four-12th and later 15th.

DOUBLE BOGEY
Despite a double bogey in between (13th), a triple bogey at the 16th and two back-to-back doubles at the 17th and 18th, Lagoussis still managed 21 points.

Former Leisure Lodge Golf Resort captain Paul Krijnen beat Atul Patel on countback with 40 points to take the men’s prize as long hitting Charles Odoo posted 38 points to beat Rahim Popat on countbackfor third place.

Yatich Kagugo was fifth with 36 points. In the ladies section, Terry Odoo carded 38 points to win ahead of club chairman Christine Ockotch on 36 and just a point better than Jane Mburu.

The seniors were led by Paul Cummings on 33, one better than Perviz Barnsley while the junior title went to Brandon Tengea on 36 points, beating Erskin Nyongesa by two points.

BEST PLAYER

George Munyao won the longest drive contest and the ladies prize went  to Wanjiru Ikua. The nearest to pin winners were Eric Ngeera and Terry Odoo. Anthony Polo only managed 12 points to win a well deserved Piga Mingi prize.

At Thika, Antony Muchoki combined 22 and 20 for 42 points to win the Pan Africa Life Cancer Challenge. Julius Kibe on 41 points made up of 19 and 22 claimed the men’s prize, with Brian Omondi finishing third on 39 points.

WAIHENYA WINS

Judy Waihenya was the best lady on 37 and she won by one point from S.M. Patel. The nines went to B M Mathenge (22) and Sebastian Njuguna on 20. George Ketem topped the guest list on 35 points and Cecilia Ndungu with 27 points taking the staff prize.

At Ruiru Fr Wilfred Mwaura won the Friends of Chairman Golf Day with 39 points ahead of Samuel Njuguna on 38 after beating Lawrence Gachara on countback.
