Kisevu ends 10-year drought to win King of the Course

High handicapper Stephen Kisevu posted his maiden victory at the par 72 Machakos Golf Club course over the weekend after a long wait of more than 10 years.

Playing off handicap 28, Kisevu who is the head of Sales and Business Development at the Kenya Orient, posted 20 points in the opening nine of the ICEA LION King of the Course golf series first leg.

He secured 22 points at the back nine after rolling in a couple of par putts for a total of 42 points to emerge victorious.

“I did not think my score was going to actually be the best. I am so excited and most grateful to ICEA LION for supporting this popular golf series here in Machakos and elsewhere in the country," said Kisevu.

He took the overall title by beating Ken Kisoi, Robert Muli and Steve Makau on countback.

Kisoi finished in second place after edging out Muli and Makau on countback. On the other hand, Virginia  Munyao posted 42 points to win by two points from Gladys Kasi, who had fired 40 points.

From the sponsors side, Benson  Mwangi was awarded the top prize among the sponsors, while S.K.Theuri emerged the best senior with a score of 35 points, and Martha Njama clinched the ladies top prize after posting 42 points.

She won by a whole12 points from Wanjiku Maingi, while taking the nines were Angela Wambui on 19 points and Nderitu Macharia, who brought 23 points.

The event attracted a field of 146 players.

Speaking during the prize giving ceremony, ICEA LION General Insurance Chief Executive Officer Philip Lopokoiyit said he was most delighted to be able to attend the event.

“The success of this series has relied to a great extent to the very strong relationship between this club - its esteemed members, ICEA LION and its predecessors (specifically Lion of Kenya who merged with its sister company Insurance Company of East Africa (ICEA) to form ICEA LION). Indeed, the first Lion of Kenya Tournament has held here in 2005 then as the Year Opener," said the CEO.

Action now moves to Thika Greens Golf Resort for the annual club-night on Friday. This will be curtain raiser to the second leg at Ruiru Sports at the weekend.
