Ulinzi Stars battled out to a 1-1 draw with Posta Rangers in an ill-tempered Football Kenya Federation Premier clash staged at Kenya Utalii Sports Club on Friday.
Forward Brian Marita netted in the 55th minute to put the mailmen ahead following a swift counter attack which started in Posta Rangers' half after Harun Mwale's corner for the soldiers was cleared.
Second half substitute Oscar Wamalwa then scored in the 94th minute to draw his side level and secure a point for the visitors.
However, Ulinzi Stars Kevin 'Oush' Ouma missed from the spot in the 87th minute after David 'Cheche' Ochieng' had handled inside the box.
The game was halted for five minutes as both sides tussled over the penalty leading to Rangers coach Stanley Okumbi, his assistant Omondi and goalkeeper trainer Victor Omondi all being sent off.
The situation almost degenerated into a physical fight as Posta Rangers' technical bench confronted centre referee Lucas Odhiambo for awarding the penalty.
After the chaotic scenes, Ouma's penalty came off the post to the disappointment of Ulinzi fans and the technical bench.
The draw means the 2010 champions' winless run stretches to three matches as they last won a match on December 20 in 2-0 triumph over bottom-placed Vihiga Bullets.
For Posta Rangers, the draw saw their unbeaten run extend to six matches since they last loss was 1-0 defeat to AFC Leopards on December 9.
The draw sees Rangers remain fifth on the log on 22 points from 13 matches. Ulinzi Stars, who had their match against Sofapaka postponed last weekend due to an ill-equipped ambulance, are 12th on 16 points from 12 matches.
Both sides played cautious football in the first quarter of the contest with neither team having a shot on target.
Ulinzi were forced to do any early substitution with Boniface Onyango coming on for injured Bernard Ongoma in the 19th minute.
The big chance for the game in the first half arrived in the 35th minute when Michael Apudo found unmarked Caleb Olilo but his shot was punched out for a corner by Ulinzi Stars custodian James Saruni.
The soldiers returned rejuvenated in the second half after double substitution with Elvis Nandwa and Oscar Wamalwa coming on for Kevin Thairu and Masita Masuta just at the restart.
Wamalwa almost restored parity with just two minutes on the pitch but his ferocious shot went inches wide.
Posta Rangers then scored through a well-worked counter attack in the 55th minute after good combination involving Jackson Dwang and Chrispinus Onyango found Marita who easily slotted home.
Ochieng' would then handle the ball inside the box in the 82nd minute to gift the soldiers a penalty despite protest from Rangers players, assistant coach Collins 'Korea' Omondi and head coach Stanley Okumbi.
The much needed goal for the soldiers came in added time as Wamalwa made an easy tap from close range after Posta defenders were caught napping in the danger zone.
