Murang'a SEAL Saturday edged out Migori Youth 1-0 in an entertaining National Super League (NSL) match at Migori Stadium in Migori County.
John Mwita scored the lone goal in the 82nd minute after a brilliant solo run from the centre of the pitch.
The victory takes Murang'a SEAL's tally to 13 points from six matches while Migori Youth, who are still winless in the league, remain in the danger zone with four points from seven matches.
Despite losing, Migori Youth coach Edward Manoah lauded his charges for displaying quality football.
He said they will correct their mistakes and expressed optimism they will start posting positive results in subsequent matches.
"My goalkeeper should have done better to prevent that ball from going in. It was an easy goal to concede but he is young and this was his first match at this level. However, you have to give credit to SEAL, they have quality players," said Manoah.
His opposite number Vincent Nyaberi could not hide his joy following the victory.
"I am happy for the boys. We had a plan and it worked. The game was tough but thank God we go home with three points," Nyaberi said.
The two sides started the match brightly but settled for a barren draw at half-time.
Despite the hosts controlling proceedings for the better part of the game, SEAL bagged maximum points after substitute Mwita's flimsy strike found the back of the net in the 82nd minute.
Mwita picked a loose ball in middle of the park, surged forward to slot in the only goal of the game, hence condemning Migori to their third loss of the season.
Mwita had replaced John Kiplang'at who had been booked earlier on for a foul on Migori's danger man Clinton Okoth.
Okoth would later be replaced by Alvin Akwach in the 87th minute.
Akwach almost gave the hosts an equaliser in added time but his well taken freekick was saved by SEAL keeper John Ndwati, who was impressive all through.
