  • Ndayiragije, a Burundian tactician, became Police’s eighth coach in three years when he took over in November 2024 on a six-month contract, replacing Salim Babu, who was dismissed along with his entire technical staff on November 21 due to poor results.

Kenya Police FC head coach Etienne Ndayiragije will have his contract extended for another year following an impressive turnaround in the team’s performance in the 2024-25 Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKF-PL) season, the cub has announced.

Ndayiragije, a Burundian tactician, became Police’s eighth coach in three years when he took over in November 2024 on a six-month contract, replacing Salim Babu, who was dismissed along with his entire technical staff on November 21 due to poor results.

Club chairman Munga Nyale confirmed the contract extension on Wednesday night at the Serena Hotel in Nairobi, during the club's gala dinner

"The coach's six-month contract will be renewed. Our goal is to finish this year as league leaders and remain so for the next five years, making Kenya Police FC a force to be reckoned with," Nyale stated.

Nyale also outlined the club’s ambition of qualifying for continental competitions and growing its fan base, revealing that Police TV will soon be launched.

When Ndayiragije took charge, Kenya Police FC was languishing in 15th place with just eight points from seven matches—having secured only one win, four draws, and two defeats.

Now, the team has soared to the top of the FKF-PL table with 38 points from 20 matches, level with Tusker FC but leading on goal difference (+5). Under his leadership, Police have registered 10 wins, eight draws, and only two losses.

Dr Raymond Omollo, the club patron and Principal Secretary for the Ministry of Interior and National Administration, emphasised the importance of fan engagement in sustaining the team’s progress.

"Supporting the club requires a lot of sacrifice. I take the opportunity to watch the teams play, and as a club, we look forward to a time when we have a substantial fan base. This will help expand the resources necessary for the club's sustainability," Omollo said.

Deputy Club Patron, Douglas Kanja, who also serves as Inspector General of the Kenya Police Service, reaffirmed the leadership’s commitment to supporting football.

"We are fully committed to supporting our football clubs because it is the right thing to do," Kanja noted.

During the event, Kanja also promoted striker Clinton Kinanga from constable to corporal, acknowledging his dedication and leadership both on and off the pitch.

The club is set to hold elections in August 2025 as part of its governance restructuring.

Board of Trustees Chair Bishop Dr Fred Akama stated that preparations are being made to ensure compliance with the Sports Registrar and the Sports Act.

"We are aligning with legal requirements to avoid issues with the sports registrar. As police officers, we adhere to the law. The process for recruiting official fans will be clarified this year, and the board will be officially reconstituted. If re-elected, we will continue our work; if not, we will pass the reins to a more capable party," said Akama.

As part of efforts to boost its brand presence, Kenya Police FC also unveiled musician Karangu Muraya and actor Brian Ogana (alias Luwi) as the club’s brand ambassadors.
