AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia have hailed Macron for standing with the clubs despite the hard economic times compounded by Covid-19 pandemic.

Leaders of the top clubs spoke on Thursday a day after receiving sports equipment from the giant Italian sportswear manufacturers that included new playing kits and balls.

While urging Ingwe fans to attend their home matches in large numbers to boost the club’s kitty, AFC Leopards chairman Dan Shikanda said his players will be donning the new kit when they host FC Talanta on Saturday.

Gor Mahia vice-chairman Francis Wasuna said: “We have been dealing with Macron since 2018 and the quality have never been a problem, because their products are made in Italy. They give everything a team needs to be comfortable.”

Shikanda said Ingwe’s monthly wage bill is Sh4.5 million against Sh1.6 million they receive every month from the shirt sponsors BetSafe. “We spent close to Sh500,000 on 20 players and 12 officials when we played Vihiga Bullets in Kakamega last weekend,” he added.

The two sides have maintained their traditional colours with Shikanda saying that a few replicas for the fans will be made available going for Sh3,000 for members and Sh3,500 for non-members.

“We have received replicas of good quality that will be available at Kasarani on Saturday and in also in our offices situated at Vision Plaza on Mombasa Road, Nairobi,” he said.

During the event held at Nairobi’s Camp Toyoyo Ground, the clubs were also promised 48 balls each and training kits for the entire season.

Leopards were represented by Shikanda, CEO Victor Bwibo and team manager Tom Juma while Gor Mahia’s CEO Raymond Oruo and sporting director Lordvic Omondi were present.

BetSafe CEO Victor Sudi said the firm will honour the three-year sponsorship deal with both clubs.
