Kenya face Comoros in a crunch 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) Group "G" qualifying match at the Stade de Moroni in Moroni on Sunday with eyes firmly fixed on improving their away record.

The Les Coelecantes go into this match confident, having led in Nairobi on Wednesday, and were arguably the better side before they were reduced to 10 men after goal scorerĀ  Youssouf M'Changama was sent off on 42 minutes.

Kenya did claw their way back into the game in the second half where they found the equaliser for a 1-1 draw.

Comoros are unbeaten at home in four years, while Kenya have only won one match away from home in their last 10 attempts - a 1-0 victory against the Democratic Republic of Congo in a friendly match in October 2016.

They drew 1-1 against Zambia's Chipolopolo, Mozambique and African giants Egypt, held to goalless draws by Uganda and Ethiopia and suffered identical 1-0 defeats to Guinea-Bissau and Ghana as well as lost 2-1 against Sierra Leone.

The Sierra Leone result was later annulled after they were suspended by Fifa.

On the other hand, Comoros have forced draws against heavyweights Egypt, Morocco, Cameroon and Ghana as well as Togo, dismissed Malawi, Botswana and fellow Indian Ocean Islanders Mauritius.

Comoros' only loss at their own turf was against 2013 Afcon runners-up Burkina Faso who won narrowly 1-0 in June 2016.

Stars, too, picked one point the first and only time they visited Comoros six years ago when they drew 1-1 on May 30, 2014 in a return leg for 2015 Afcon qualifiers. Kenya had triumphed albeit narrowly 1-0 in the first leg in Nairobi two weeks earlier.

Since that year, Kenya and Comoros have met twice; in 2018 in a friendly match in Morocco which ended 2-2 and in last Wednesday's 1-1 stalemate in Nairobi.

From the statistics and Kenya's lack of a dependable finisher after Japan-based Michael Olunga was ruled out, Jacob 'Ghost' Mulee's will have to work overtime to get something.

This fixture could eventually determine whether or not Stars will be in Cameroon in 2022.

At the moment, Kenya, who competed in last year's Afcon in Egypt after 15 years in the cold, is in desperate need of getting a win from The Coelacanthus. The Comorans top the group with five points from a win against Togo and draws against Egypt and Kenya.

Kenya is two points behind in second spot with three 1-1 draws against Egypt, Togo and Comoros.

The Pharaohs welcome Togo later on Saturday with the winner set to displace Kenya from second place.

Egypt have two points from two matches, while Togo are last after collecting a point from Nairobi in November 2019.
