Education Background: Masters in Law degree (LLM) in Human Rights and Civil Liberties and a Diploma in Women’s Rights

Justice Ndung’u was appointed to the Supreme Court on June 11, 2011.

She previously worked as State Counsel in the Office of the Attorney General, Programme Officer at the Institute for Education in Democracy, and National Protection Officer at United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

She has also worked as a Political Analyst in Conflict Management at the African Union. Justice Ndung’u also served as a nominated member of the National Assembly (2003 and 2007). She had been nominated by the late President Mwai Kibaki’s National Rainbow Coalition (NARC) party.

She is the architect of the Sexual Offences Act (2006) and of amendments to the Employment Act (2007) providing for paid maternity and paternity leave.

The judge is in addition credited with the amendments to the Political Parties Act (2007) on affirmative action measures for women in political participation.
Justice Ndung’u was also a member of the Committee of Experts that drafted the Kenyan Constitution 2010.
