BIOGRAPHY


Education Background: Bachelors of Law Degree from the University of Nairobi and Diploma in Legal Practice from the Kenya School of Law.

Justice Lenaola joined the Judiciary in 2003 and worked as Resident Judge in Embu, Meru, Machakos and Kakamega High Courts.

In 2016 he was promoted to the Supreme Court.

Until his appointment as Judge of the Supreme Court, Judge Lenaola was the Presiding Judge of the Constitutional and Human Rights Division at the High Court in Milimani, Nairobi where he rendered illuminating and ground breaking decisions on human rights, devolution, separation of powers among other areas of jurisprudence. 

Among the prominenet judgments he rendered at the High Court is awarding the second-liberation hero Kenneth Matiba (now deceased) close to Sh1 billion for the suffering he underwent in the hands of state officers, during the agitation for the return of multipartyism.

Judge Lenaola also sat on a bench of three judges that declared the Constituency Development Fund law unconstitutional, hence invalid.

He has served as Judge and Deputy Principal Judge of the Court of First Instance of the East African Court of Justice (EACJ) from 2011 to 2018.
