Uhuru orders increase in unprocessed rice prices

  • Ms Waiguru called for banning of rice imports to protect local farmers from unfair competition.

  • Governor Anne Waiguru had complained that farmers have been selling their produce at throw away prices.

  • He also directed that the Multi-million Mwea Rice Mills be revived to process farmers’ produce.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has ordered the Ministry of Agriculture to increase the price unprocessed rice from Sh45 to Sh85 per kilogramme following complaints from farmers.
