Mr Namwamba announced on Wednesday that he had quit his ODM post citing betrayal by the party leader Mr Raila Odinga.

In a statement to newsrooms, ODM said the mandate to replace the party's secretary general lies with two committees, the Central Committee and National Executive Council (NEC).

“Appointment of the acting Secretary General of the Party in the event of a vacancy is not a reserve of the Party Leader or any other official of the party. The Central Committee has to meet then make recommendations to the NEC for consideration," read the ODM statement.

The party’s Central Committee will meet on Tuesday followed by a NEC meeting on Thursday to discuss the matter.
