Rasanga denies hurting opponent’s campaigns

Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga has denied claims that he was behind the production and distribution of posters that were aimed at lessening his opponent’s popularity.

Mr Rasanga told the High Court in Kisumu that he only heard of the fake poster claims after his opponent William Oduol served him with a copy of the petition. Copies of the posters were produced in court as exhibits.

Mr Oduol accuses him of authoring the posters, which had his portrait superimposed with that of Jubilee leaders Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto, a move, he says, was aimed at depicting him as anti-Raila.

A witness of Mr Oduol had previously told the court that a nephew of Mr Rasanga, Mr Leonard Otieno, was found distributing the posters and that he was arrested in the process. Mr Rasanga denied the claim.

He also denied knowing any of the vehicles that were allegedly distributing the posters and other TNA party materials.

The Governor also denied claims that Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo defamed Mr Oduol by terming him a murderer.

“I attended rallies with Mr Midiwo, but I don’t remember him telling the gathering that Mr Oduol had shot his wife,” Mr Rasanga said before Mr Justice Aggrey Muchelule.

ODM is also accused of crashing into a rally Mr Oduol was addressing at Luthehe market during the campaign period.

Mr Oduol was vying on a NAP-K ticket.
