Deputy President William Ruto has hit back at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), saying the move to focus its investigations on the 2007/08 post-election violence (PEV) after victims spoke of fresh threats is an attempt to “resuscitate” tribalism in the country.

In a tweet posted via his official account Tuesday, the DP expressed his displeasure with the renewed focus of the DCI as announced George Kinoti yesterday.

“The provocative incitement to ethnic hate intended by the resurrection of 2007/08 post-election violence is an evil attempt to resuscitate the tribe project,” the DP said.

On Monday, Mr Kinoti announced that some PEV victims had reported fresh threats and recorded statements.

“The core mandate of the police is to stop, deter and disrupt violence from happening and so when we received the reports of renewed threats, we went to the ground for about two weeks to listen to the victims and advised them to record statements,” said Mr Kinoti.
