Police are investigating the death of former Nation journalist John Gatonye Gathura.

His body was found dumped at Kihoto area, Naivasha, a month ago.

Nakuru Sub-county police commander Samuel Waweru said the body, which was collected on October 26, was taken to Naivasha Hospital Mortuary and booked as an unknown person.

Fingerprints were then taken for verification.

"The results of the identification process were made public on November 12, 2021," said Mr Waweru.

A family member who visited the morgue yesterday said the Health and Science scribe was not easily identifiable due to decomposition.

A relative also confirmed that the journalist was living alone at the time of his disappearance.

"We will be visiting the mortuary tomorrow (Friday) and issue a statement thereafter," added the family member.

The medical superintendent in charge of the Naivasha sub-county hospital, Dr Angeline Ithondeka, confirmed that the body was lying at the morgue.

"It was first booked as that of unknown person when it was first brought to the mortuary four weeks ago," she said.

Mr Waweru said the journalist might have been killed elsewhere before the body was dumped in Naivasha.

The police have have stepped up investigations into the matter.
