Kenya's Covid-19 cases rise to 36,724 after 148 more test positive

Kenya now has 36,724 confirmed cases of the coronavirus, the Health ministry announced on Friday, saying 148 more people were found positive following the testing of 2,438 samples in the last 24 hours.

The ministry said this number of samples raised the total tested in the country, since the first case was confirmed on March 13, to 511,614.

It announced 98 more recoveries, raising the total to 23,709, and four more deaths, raising the toll to 646.

Forty six of the newly recovered patients were treated at home and 52 in hospitals.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said 105 of the new patients were male and 43 female and the youngest two years old and the oldest 75.

Only three of them were foreigners who live in Kenya.

In terms of case distribution, Mombasa accounted for 40 of the new patients, Nairobi 32, Laikipia 15 and Kiambu 11.

Then came Nakuru and Embu with seven cases each, Uasin Gishu and Kajiado with six each, Taita Taveta and Kisumu with five each, Kitui with four, Trans Nzoia with three and Baringo, Elgeyo Marakwet, Kwale, Machakos, Kericho, Makueni and Murang'a one each.
