Former Commissioner of Police Duncan Wachira was on Wednesday laid to rest at his Kirengero home in Subukia, Nakuru County.
Inspector General of the National Police Service Mr Hillary Mutyambai, former IG David Kimaiyo and Deputy Inspector General in Charge of Kenya Police, Edward Mbugua were among the senior government officials who attended the burial.
Nakuru Governor, Lee Kinyanjui and other dignitaries were also in attendance.
Mr Wachira, who died a week ago, at 73, in Nairobi following an illness, served as Police Commissioner between 1996 and 1998 when many say he steered a number of reforms in the then Kenya Police Force.

IG Mutyambai remembered the deceased as a tough commander who could withstand any challenges with the will of service close to his heart.
“I personally knew him as a very kind and considerate person but with a no nonsense personality. Those of us who managed to serve until his retirement age, really enjoyed big time,” he said.
In a message delivered through the IG, President Uhuru Kenyatta deeply eulogised the late Wachira as a compassionate, noble, generous and patriotic leader who went out of his way to assist all who sought his help.
Former IG Kimaiyo said he had lost a friend and a colleague who did show admirable leadership qualities throughout his tenure.
Loving husband
“Although life is going on, Mr Wachira’s absence will always be felt by all of us,” Mr Kimaiyo said.
Mr Wachira was born in 1947 and joined the Kenya Police Force as direct entry assistant Inspector in 1969.
He was in service for over 30 years before he retired in 1998. Even though it has been 21 years since Mr Wachira retired from the service, his former colleagues eulogized him as a great servant with dignity.
Mr Wachira’s widow, Ms Kathleen Wanjiku Wachira mourned him as loving partner who never made her cry all the time she was married to him.

She said that for 47 years they were together in marriage, Mr Wachira was a pillar of the family and despite his busy schedule while in service, he always put the family first.
“I still feel I was the luckiest woman on earth. You showed me love that I know I will never get anywhere else. You were a government servant but still handled me, your wife and children, as a dad, all through. Every moment spent with you, shall always be treasured. Rest in eternal peace my love,” she said.
Of all his achievements, Mrs Wachira said nothing made her husband happier and prouder than his family to whom he was a pillar and an excellent mentor.
