Mr Ouko was battling Covid-19.
His death brings to five the number of UoN lecturers who have died of Covid-19 since the pandemic struck the country in March.
Mr Ouko was a renowned sociologist who specialised in the areas of deviance and family, gerontology and medical sociology.
His social commentaries focused on the family unit.
Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha mourned Mr Ouko as one of the most intelligent lecturers in the sociology department.
Prof Magoha said his death demystifies the notion that Covid-19 only affects the elderly.
"He was much younger than me and it is sad that we have lost such a vibrant young man to the virus," he said Saturday.
Higher learning institutions are preparing to reopen after an initial September date was pushed forward as many were not ready.
Kenya on Friday recorded 723 new cases of Covid-19, raising the country's tally to 20,636.
Sixteen more patients succumbed to the virus Friday, bringing the total of fatalities from the disease in the country as at Friday to 341, according to Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe.
