Mr Campbell Scott, a British national who flew to Nairobi for a three-day conference, has been missing since Sunday. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is now seeking help from Interpol to find the 58-year-old.

Mr Scott was in Nairobi for a workshop hosted by TransUnion, one of only three licensed credit reference bureaus in Kenya, which commenced on Tuesday at the JW Marriott Hotel in Westlands, Nairobi.

But he walked out of the same hotel on Sunday, towards Westlands, in what would be the last time the Briton was seen.

He is a senior director of the London wing of FICO, an American data analytics company specialising in credit evaluation.

Product management

FICO is one of the world’s biggest players in the credit scoring space, operating branches in 21 other countries in South America, Europe, Oceania, Asia and Africa. At the London branch, Mr Scott is in charge of product management.

He checked into his hotel room at the JW Marriott at around 1pm on Saturday but left an hour later.

CCTV footage covering that afternoon shows Mr Scott dressed in cargo pants and a blue shirt, seemingly relaxed and jovial, waving at staff at the hotel before walking out.

He returned at around 4pm, with the footage showing him exchanging pleasantries with the hotel’s security personnel before walking back to his room.

He left the hotel at around 11.15am on Sunday. His colleagues thought he was going for a walk to shake off his jet lag and assumed he would be back in time for lunch.

Mr Manaton Michael Edward, one of his colleagues staying at the hotel, was expecting to sit down with Mr Scott to prepare FICO's presentation for the conference.

Phone switched off

Mr Edward called Mr Scott’s UK-registered phone number at around 6pm, but it was switched off. He assumed the phone had run out of power.

At around 7pm, Michael tried to contact Mr Scott again, but his phone was switched off. At this point, he decided to notify the hotel management, who advised him to report the matter to the police.

Mr Edward made a missing person report to Parklands Police Station on Sunday evening.

The hotel management, security and Parklands police began a search for the missing man.

On Monday, the case was taken over by senior detectives from the Nairobi area, who also invited officers from the DCI Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau.

Together with hotel staff, police visited various bars and hotels in Westlands in search of information on the missing man, but no one had seen Mr Scott enter any of the establishments visited.

As of Tuesday afternoon, detectives said there had been little progress in the search.

The DCI has now asked Interpol for help in finding Mr Scott. Interpol officials in Nairobi have been asked to help access Mr Scott's call records to find out who may have called him before he went missing.

At least five people, including security guards and hotel staff, have so far recorded statements with police as the search for Mr Scott continues.
