Covid-19: Deaths rise to 950 as confirmed cases spike

Confirmed Covid-19 cases in Kenya have risen to 51,851 after 1,018 more people tested positive in the last 24 hours. The latest cases are from a sample size of 6,649.

In a press statement on Wednesday, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said 426 patients have recovered from the virus during the same period.

Of this number, 312 are from home-based care while 114 have been discharged from various hospitals across the country.

The CS also announced that fatalities from the virus have risen to 950 following the death of 16 patients in the last 24 hours.

From the latest cases, 989 are Kenyans while 29 are foreigners. In terms of gender, 657 are males and 361 females. The youngest is a nine-month old infant while the oldest is 96 years old.

Nairobi, with 199, registered the highest number of new cases from the latest positive results, followed by Mombasa (117), Kiambu (102), Kericho (73) and Nakuru (67).

County distribution

More news cases were recorded in Bungoma (66), Uasin Gishu (55), Kisumu (50), Kilifi (40), Kisii (30), Bomet (18), Siaya (18), Nyeri (16), West Pokot (16), Meru (14), Isiolo (14), Machakos (12), Murang’a (10) and Nandi (10).

There were also new cases in Laikipia (9), Kajiado (9), Garissa (9), Busia (8), Tharaka-Nithi (6), Nyamira (6), Kirinyaga (5), Vihiga (5), Samburu (5), Kakamega (4), Kwale (4), Trans Nzoia (3), Baringo (3), Wajir (3), Turkana (2), Narok (2), Nyandarua (2), Taita Taveta (2), Tana River (2) and Migori.
