South Sudan Covid-19 cases cross 2,000 mark

South Sudan's confirmed coronavirus cases crossed the 2,000 mark this week to now stand at 2,021 cases.

The country's Health Ministry had confirmed 18 new cases recorded on Monday and Tuesday respectively. 

The results were obtained from 95 samples tested on Tuesday by the Public Health Laboratory.

One person among the 18 was identified as a male adult that tested positive for the virus in Nimule Town, Eastern Equatoria State – a border town neighbouring Uganda. 

The total number of Covid-19 fatalities now stands at 38.

“On the positive, the number of patients that have recovered from the virus increased to 279. The Covid-19 Rapid Responsive team is tracing 594 contacts of the confirmed cases,” said Dr Richard Laku, Covid-19 Incident Manager.  

He appealed to citizens to strictly continue adhering to social distancing and other anti-coronavirus measures to slow spread of the virus.
