The Nation Media Group has distanced itself from fake publications circulated in Busia County, purporting to be a genuine front page of the Daily Nation of April 13, 2017.
In a statement, Corporate and Regulatory Affairs head Clifford Machoka said: “It has come to our attention that there are leaflets circulating in Busia County disguised as the front page of [the] Daily Nation newspaper containing political messaging on the upcoming elections.
“We disassociate ourselves from such leaflets and condemn in the strongest terms possible the use of any of our brands for political purposes.”
The leaflets had information that Funyula MP Paul Otuoma had defected from ODM to Jubilee.
Such reports could be damaging to Dr Otuoma, who is seeking to unseat Mr Ojaamong.
“Nation Media Group is an apolitical, independent media house that is not affiliated to any political party or candidate as clearly set out in our editorial policy.
“We have taken immediate action to report this violation [to] relevant authorities for appropriate action,” said Mr Machoka.
He went on: “We wish to thank you very much for your continued loyalty and are committed to delivering value to our leaders in the greater interest of the public through responsible journalism.”
