  • On Sunday, security personnel flushed out youth who were gathered at Mombasa mosque who had planned a meeting on jihad.

The Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims has condemned the use of some mosques in Mombasa for what it terms as criminal activities.

Supkem Secretary-General Adan Wachu chastised youths who were flushed out of the Masjid Mussa on Sunday saying “Islam is not terrorism.”

“The Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims is shocked by the utter illegality, criminality and un-Islamic actions by marauding youths in Mussa mosque in Mombasa.

“We are unable to say the brand of faith they represent and in that regard, we completely disown them,” Mr Wachu said in a statement.

The Muslim leader said it is wrong for places of worship to be used for criminal activities.

EMBRACE ISLAM

“We condemn both the youths and their uncivil deeds as Islam has a well cultured manner of doing things. Leadership in Islam is nurtured and anchored on trust, ability, knowledge and fairness to dispense justice.”

He cautioned that changes in structured and functional Muslim bodies “can never succumb to the whims & threats of such groups.”

“What the youths who claim to embrace Islam are doing is neither in the Quran nor sayings of the prophet. We fully support the current imams and leadership of all mosques and Muslim institutions in Kenya,” he added.

Mr Wachu called on the government to take stern action on the youth but urged that the mosque be left open.

“We call upon all Muslims to be united against this monster. Islam is not terrorism nor is terrorism Islam,” Mr Wachu said.
