Terror group seeks youths with skills

What you need to know:

  • Those with skills in electronic engineering and information technology are susceptible to recruitment.

Youths with special skills in electronic engineering and information technology are susceptible to recruitment into Al-Shabaab if they fail to secure jobs, the man seeking to extricate himself from the terrorist group has said.

“We have to be worried that these people no longer need foot soldiers. They want more skilled persons, among them IT experts, chemical engineers and generally smart people who can think,” he said in an interview with the Nation.

He said he was assigned numerous missions because of his knowledge in repairing boat engines.

He also claimed that there were many Kenyans fighting for Al-Shabaab in Somalia.

“There are many people who are willing to come back but they fear being caught by the terrorists or killed by the government,” he said.
