What you need to know:

  • Pink Lake Man’s Eco Lodge was the perfect gateway for relaxation and reflection.
  • The lodge is located a few kilometres after Kikopey on your way to Nakuru.

A visit to Naivasha would be incomplete without exploring Lake Elementaita, which is only a few kilometres away. Pink Lake Man’s Eco Lodge was the perfect gateway for relaxation and reflection.

The lodge is located a few kilometres after Kikopey on your way to Nakuru. You have to be careful not to miss the turn as there is no proper signage. Hint, a quick google search again saved the day as I got a direct contact of Mr Macharia who owns the facility – it is pretty much inside his compound.

Walking distance to the lake

The lodge is pretty much a charming treehouse and is a walking distance to the lake and adjacent to a seasonal river. It has two floors with three large rooms, and each has a fireplace, kitchen, lounge area and balconies with a good view of the river and an excellent view of the natural surroundings.

I took the big self-contained room on the top floor that has two bedrooms, one adequately fitted with a wooden rustic double-decker bed. This is ideal for a family holiday. All the rooms have refrigerators to keep your food and drinks fresh and chilled. The balcony has a treadmill with a good view of the seasonal river below if you are a fitness enthusiast like me.

There’s an in-house chef that cooks on request, but you can as well cook for yourself if you wish. The rooms do not have TV sets, and that worked perfectly for me. However, Mr Macharia availed a Bluetooth speaker and WiFi modem that came in handy as I streamed soothing music from my phone.

The families living around have theme nights every Saturday around the bush fire, and it is a fantastic way of guests to interact and get to know each other as well as socialise with the locals.

The next morning, I took a walk to the shores of Lake Elementaita, and the view was breath-taking. Macharia is a fantastic host as well as the locals who are quick to guide you in case you get lost in the bushy area.

From the shores of Lake Elementaita, I could see the famous Sleeping Warrior and Ugali Hills. Perfect for hikers.

The treehouse had a home away from the home village feel and the evenings by the fireplace added quite a lovely touch to my stay at the facility.

The rates are relatively affordable. I paid Sh 6,000 a night for the entire room, and the rest go for almost the same amount. Mr Macharia is a fantastic host, and he is open to negotiations. The facility is fantastic for a group excursion as the rooms can host up to five people each.

I enjoyed the peace and will recommend Pink Lake Man’s Eco Lodge to anyone looking for a quick and affordable getaway from the city.

There are several other good facilities around the same area that one can explore – The White Thorn Cottage and Kikopey Beach House are just a kilometre or two away from it.
