Kenya part of new global deal to save animals, plants


Currently, an estimated 15 per cent of the world’s land and seven per cent of the ocean are protected.

  • The participating countries harbour 28 per cent of the global terrestrial biodiversity
  • This is a quarter of the world’s terrestrial carbon stores (biomass and soil).
  • It is also 28 per cent of ocean biodiversity priority areas.

Kenya has joined more than 50 other countries across six continents in a programme for environmental conservation.
