Police in Tana River have arrested two men in connection with the murder of a 58-year-old woman in Vibao Viwili along the Malindi-Garsen Road on Monday.

Tana River police boss Fredrick Ochieng said preliminary investigations revealed that the woman may have been killed over a land dispute.

Mr Ochieng said the woman had previously confronted a man who had sold land to her seeking to have her money returned after suspecting the trade was not genuine.

But the police boss said they are yet to establish if the woman went back to confront the dealer on the day she met her death.

"We have the dealer in custody and the boda boda rider who was last seen ferrying the victim," he said.

Mr Ochieng urged the victim’s family members and residents to maintain peace as the police investigate the murder.

The two suspects will be arraigned with the police seeking to hold them longer to allow them  complete investigation.

The beheaded body of the woman was found about 500 meters away from Hurara Police Station on Monday.

Police suspect that the woman was murdered elsewhere and the body dumped on the road close to the police station where it was found by pedestrians.
