Ms Florence Aluodo, an aspirant for the Siaya Woman Representative seat in the 2017 poll, has passed away.

She was pronounced dead on Monday at 12.30pm.

About 9 days ago, the mother of three was admitted at Mater Hospital, Nairobi with breathing difficulties.

Before her death Ms Aluodo, 42, was a vibrant politician who contested the Siaya Woman Representative seat as an independent candidate.

Her family has refuted speculation on social media that she had succumbed to Covid-19 complications.

The deceased's husband, Mr Peter Ofware, told Nation.Africa that doctors had carried out coronavirus tests which came back negative.

"Although she had difficulty in breathing, she did not die of Covid-19," he said.

Generous

"She was generous and concerned with the less fortunate people in the society," he added.

“It is unfortunate she did not attain her political ambition."

Besides politics, Ms Aluodo had worked with various non-governmental organisations in Siaya County for more than 10 years.

She worked at the Kenya Medical and Research and Research Institute (Kemri) and the Centre for Disease Control as a coordinator.

She has left behind three children, a girl and two boys.
