Boy, 13, shot dead by bandits in Baragoi

A 13-year-old boy has been shot dead by bandits at Kilepoi in Baragoi.
He was shot while herding cattle on Wednesday evening, and died on the spot in the 5pm incident.
Samburu North Assistant Commissioner Anthony Kamau said the boy's mother sustained serious injuries. The killers drove away 16 cattle.
Mr Kamau said the killers drove away 16 heads of cattle to a neighbouring village.
The police have launched a manhunt for the attackers.
According to the administrator, security officers worked together with local residents and managed to recover all animals.
"We have deployed a contingent of security officers who are patrolling Baragoi town to ensure there is peace," he told the Nation.
He also urged locals not to retaliate and give the police time to pursue and arrest the culprits.
"Police officers have restored calm. We are investigating the incident and we will ensure they are apprehended," he added.
The body of the victim was taken to Maralal Referral Hospital, awaiting a post-mortem.
The stolen cattle was tracked to a bush along the route the killers used to escape.
The attack comes just days after a 35-year-old woman was shot dead. The mother of five was killed while walking home in Munanda area at 8pm.
