Lugari MP Ayub Savula wants Water Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa sacked for allegedly engaging in active politics, which is against the Constitution.

He claimed Mr Wamalwa has been lobbying members of the Luhya community to support the newly formed Jubilee Party, on whose ticket President Uhuru Kenyatta intends to seek re-election in the 2017 polls.

“The President needs to uphold the Constitution by sacking any Cabinet secretary who participates in active politics,” said Mr Savula, who accused Mr Wamalwa of seeking to divide the Luhya nation.

This came as Mr Wamalwa dismissed the presidential bids of Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi and his Ford-Kenya counterpart Moses Wetang’ula.

Mr Wamalwa, who spoke at his Kitale home when he hosted leaders from West Pokot County on Monday, said the fact that locals are reluctant to register as voters disadvantages any candidate from the community.

“Our community has barely two million voters yet we are the second most populous in Kenya. To make it worse, there are so many candidates fighting for the few votes. They cannot make it to State House,” he said.

And Mr Savula called on the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate some Cabinet secretaries he claimed have been receiving hand-outs from the Executive to undermine sitting leaders, including MPs.

“The Water CS should resign and join active politics. He has been organising delegations from our community to meet Deputy President William Ruto in an effort to show how loyal he is,” said Mr Savula.

Mr Wamalwa led a delegation of Luhya leaders to Mr Ruto’s home in Sugoi, a move Mr Savula sees as part of a wider scheme to divide the community politically ahead of the next general polls.

“As a second populous community, we shall support one of our own to contest the presidency. Any leader who will work against that will be treated as an outcast,” said Mr Savula.

He said he was consulting with Mr Mudavadi, Mr Wetang’ula and Federal Party of Kenya leader Cyrus Jirongo, among others, to craft ways of strengthening Luhya unity ahead of 2017 General Election.
