One person has died while six others have been injured in a road crash at Total trading centre in Mau Summit, along the Nakuru-Eldoret highway.

Mau Summit Base Commander James Ademba said the on Thursday evening crash occurred when the driver of a 14-seater matatu that was heading to Eldoret from Nakuru lost control of the vehicle and veered off the road.

"The driver was avoiding hitting a pedestrian who was crossing the road before he lost control and veered off the road. In the process, he hit a saloon car that was moving in the same direction from the rear," said Mr Ademba, adding that the driver of the car succumbed to injuries as he was being taken to hospital.

He said two other occupants of the car sustained serious injuries while four others from the matatu were taken to Molo Sub-County Hospital for treatment.

The police boss urged road users and motorists to be careful especially while driving during this festive season.

He called on drivers to be more vigilant and avoid speeding or careless driving.

The damaged vehicles were moved to Mau Summit Police Station while the body of the victim was moved to Molo Sub-County mortuary.
