Female ward representatives have won big in the reconstituted Nairobi County Assembly Speaker’s panel, getting half the positions.

The team, also known as the chairperson’s committee, had only one woman.

Nominated Ward Representative Emily Oduor and her counterpart Immapet Kemunto will be in the panel with Ruai Representative John Kamangu and his Dandora Two counterpart Silas Matara.

The previous panel consisted of Ms Oduor, Mr Matara, Mukuru kwa Njenga Representative Evans Otiso and Harambee’s Antony Kimemia before it was disbanded by the then Speaker Beatrice Elachi.

Team members lead plenary sessions in the absence of the Speaker and his deputy.

Majority Leader Abdi Hassan Guyo praised the gender balance in the panel.

Nominated Ward Representative Kabiro Mbugua told the National Assembly and Senate to visit the assembly “for lessons on gender parity”.

Mr Kamangu will be the first chairperson, Mr Matara the second, Ms Oduor the third and Ms Kemunto the fourth chairperson of the panel.
