President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto have closed ranks in grieving with the Murang’a family that on Sunday lost five of its members in a grisly road accident.

Represented by Kangema MP Muturi Kigano and Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro respectively, the two and other leaders sent a combined Sh2.1 million to the family for use in making burial arrangements.

While presenting the funds at Nyakahura village, Mr Kigano gave Sh1 million from the President and Sh200,000 from Interior PS Karanja Kibicho, then topped up with his personal donation of Sh100,000.

Mr Nyoro gave Sh500,000 from Dr Ruto and topped up with Sh300,000 from his team.

The five met their death when the vehicle they were travelling in from a dowry function was involved in an accident at Kwangolia area on Machakos-Wote road, Makueni County.

Among the dead were a man, his wife and their three children. The driver of the vehicle lost control and it rolled several times.

The family had made a passionate plea for help in transporting the bodies from Machakos mortuary to Kangema for the burials.
