Three Chogoria Girls High School students and the driver of a 14-seater matatu they were travelling in have died in an accident at Kambiti area, Murang'a County.

Murang’a South sub County Police Commander Alexander Shikondi, who confirmed the Saturday morning accident, said the matatu collided head-on with an oncoming lorry.

The vehicle belonging to MARK One Sacco that plies Nairobi-Meru route was ferrying 14 students at the time of the accident that caused a huge traffic snarl up on the Sagana-Kenol Road.

Mr Shikondi said the matatu was heading to Nairobi. He said 10 injured passengers were rushed to surrounding hospitals for treatment.

"We have informed Chogoria Girls High School administration of the accident," he said the officer who called on drivers to exercise caution on the roads during the festive season.

"Some of these accidents can be avoided if we behave responsibly," he said.

Last week a bus driver died while five pupils were injured in an accident on the Gakungu- Kirimiri road in Murang’a South Sub County.

Mr Shikondi said the driver was reported to have lost control of the vehicle as it negotiated a sharp bend.
