Pain of Murang'a family that lost mother and son in 24 hours

Leaders in Murang’a County on Tuesday condoled with the family of former Township Ward MCA Charles Machigo Karina, who lost his wife and a son in 24 hours.

The Machigo family was first thrown into mourning on Monday at 7am with the death of Alex Karina, followed by the death of Grace Machigo on Tuesday morning at the same time.

The two have been ailing for some time and had been admitted to hospital several times.

Senator Irungu Kang’ata wished the family fortitude to bear the loss, promising to stand with the bereaved in both word and deed.

“Sometimes it sounds farfetched to say I share the loss … That I know what you are feeling … but it’s the family of the bereaved that feels first-hand the pain. Mine is to stand in solidarity with my brother Machigo, his family and entire network of friends who have witnessed great leadership in you,” he told the former MCA.

Woman Rep Sabina Chege said she would stand with the family in its moment of grief.

“May the Good Lord touch the grieving hearts and above all, give it the strength to bear the loss,” she said.

Kigumo parliamentary seat aspirant Faith Njoya said she was lost for words “but God who watches over us and is the author of life will comfort Mr Machigo”.

Senatorial aspirant Hellen Kigia rallied the county to pray for the family.

“It is at such a time that we are all obligated to go on our knees and in supplication place the family of Mr Machigo in prayer. I will exactly do that for this family,” Ms Kigia said.

Mt Kenya MCAs Caucus Chairman Charles Mwangi termed the loss to the Machigo family as grave and prayed for the dead to find eternal peace.

“I also pray for my brother Machigo to take heart in the full knowledge that God will watch over him and his family,” he said.

Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro prayed for the family to endure in peace and promised to stand firm beside the family.

“As your member of Parliament in Kiharu, I will stand with you both in prayer and deed. We are together in this and we will continue supporting the family till the end of the immediate ceremonies to follow the two loved ones’ demise,” he said.

Patrons at the Makavilla Resort in Murang’a town owned by Mr Machigo observed a minute of silence twice — after news of the deaths was received.

Former Maragua MP Elias Mbau termed the loss “grave and to be overcome by dedicating the grieving family to God in prayer”.

Reformed gangster John Kiriamiti, famed for his novels My Life In Crime and My Life With A Criminal, said: “I have known Mr Machigo for long and I know he has a strong heart that will solidly take the double knocks and remain standing.”

Kandara MP Alice Wahome said: “I knew the two departed souls as humble, likeable and full of infectious life.”

 She said she was sad to learn of their deaths and promised both spiritual and material support for the family.
