A tragic road accident along the Dongo Kundu Bypass early Saturday February 1 morning claimed two lives and left two others injured.

The fatal crash occurred at around 5:40 a.m. near Kilomita Kumi and involved a Toyota Isis (KDE 791H) and another vehicle (UNEP 926K).

According to police reports from the Likoni Traffic Base, the Toyota Isis, was heading from Dongo Kundu towards Miritini with two passengers on board.

The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, veered off his lane, and collided head-on with an oncoming car.

The second vehicle, a UNEP-registered car, was driven by Gerald Mutise, who had three passengers traveling in the opposite direction.

The impact of the collision was severe, killing the Toyota Isis driver on the spot.

One of his passengers, identified only as Teresia, also succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

The other two occupants in the two vehicles sustained injuries and were rushed to Mombasa Hospital for medical attention.

Emergency responders, including traffic police officers from Likoni, arrived at the scene to provide assistance and clear the wreckage.

The bodies of the deceased were transported to the Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital morgue for post-mortem examinations.

Both vehicles were towed to Likoni Police Station for further inspection as investigations into the cause of the accident continue.

Authorities have urged motorists using the busy Dongo Kundu Bypass to exercise caution, as the road is still new.
