Mystery as body of an unknown man found hanging on tree

Residents of Mwamambi, Kwale County were on Wednesday shocked after a body of a man was found hanging on a tree.

Speaking to reporters at the scene, area Nyumba Kumi ambassador Ms Saida Waikwa said the body was discovered by a woman who was taking her children to school.

The body could not be immediately identified even after police officers who were called to the scene searched him, only finding a bunch of keys and Sh3 coins. They did not find any document to identify him.

“I knew about the incident from a neighbour, a fellow ambassador, who called and informed me about the incident at around 6:45am,” she said.

Ms Waikwa explained that she reported the issue to area AP commander and OCS and upon enquiry they managed to get information that the man was a curio seller at the beach.

“We do not understand why he could have come all the way to commit suicide from here. Maybe he did not want to be seen by people who knew him,” she said.

Another resident, Jimmy Mbaro, said he had lived in the village for over 10 years and there has been no such incident.

Mr Mbaro affirmed that the deceased does not reside in the area adding that they have not even seen his face before to enable establish his place of origin.

“Personally I have never met that man before but there are a few people who have identified him as a curio seller with only one name as Mr Mwanzia,” he said.

At the same time Mr Mbaro said a watchman who guards a nearby hardware confirmed having seen the man at around 4am, staggering.

He added that another man who came at the scene earlier, recalled having seen the deceased at a pub where he was drinking alcohol in a company of other people.

The residents were thrown into another mystery as a few metres from where the body of the man was found, they saw a baby girl said to be barely a year old dumped at a veranda.

The body was taken to Msambweni Referral Hospital mortuary while the baby was taken at Ukunda Police Station.
