Mombasa-based Principal Magistrate Elvis Michieka is dead.

Mr Michieka died Wednesday morning while receiving treatment at Karen Hospital, Nairobi.

It was not immediately established what Mr Michieka was being treated for.

"I am saddened to announce the promotion to glory of our friend and brother, the Hon Elvis Michieka. Our brother was stationed at Mombasa Law Courts," said Kenya Magistrates and Judges Association (KMJA) Secretary-General Derrick Kuto, while confirming his death.

Mr Kuto said the association has lost a brother, a friend and a diligent colleague who is an "irreplaceable pillar".

While conveying condolences to the family and friends, Mr Kuto urged KMJA members to pray for God’s strength “to withstand this loss”.

"Our brother has left us. Only God gives and takes," he said in a statement.

Until his death, Mr Michieka was presiding over Kilifi Deputy Governor Gideon Saburi’s case. Mr Saburi was charged with wilfully exposing himself in public while suffering from Covid-19 without taking proper precautions, contrary to the Public Health Act.
