Cord leader Raila Odinga’s mother-in-law has died.

Mama Rosa Oyoo, the mother of Mr Odinga’s wife Ida, died on Thursday night at St Joseph’s Mission Hospital Ombo in Migori Town where she was being treated.

She was in her 90s.

Mr Odinga Friday flew to Migori with Ford-Kenya leader Moses Wetang’ula to console the family.

Good education

“She was the first Kenyan nurse and was a very likeable character,” said Mr Odinga.

He said though his father-in-law died in 1959, Mama Oyoo raised the children well and gave them a good education.

“We will greatly miss her,”  he said.

A family member, Mr Harry Oyoo, said Mama Oyoo had not been feeling well for some time.

“Her death, however, came as a big shock to the family,” he said.

Villagers thronged the Stella home in Uriri Constituency to condole the family and described the old lady as a devoted Christian who loved assisting people.

Mr Odinga himself would not visit Migori without passing by the home to greet her.

“He had special ties with the mother-in-law,” said a villager Mr Tom Okello.
