Four police officers killed in suspected Shabaab attack in Lamu

Four General Service Unit (GSU) officers have died after a vehicle they were travelling in was hit by an explosive device at Nure Corner along the Lamu-Witu-Garsen road in Lamu county
The 9am incident happened as the officers from Nyongoro headed to the Ndeu roadblock to continue their escort duties.

Coast Regional Commissioner, John Elungata confirmed the incident to Nation.Africa. However, he was yet to establish the exact number of casualties and the motive behind the attack.
"I can't be sure about Al-Shabaab militants but it is true, an incident involving police vehicles that had finished their escort duties have come under attack early morning today. The multi-agency security team there has responded quickly and the situation is normalizing. As for the number casualties, still no full information. We will update shortly,” Mr Elungata said.
No civilians are reported to have been involved incident.
