A 16-year-old boy was electrocuted on Tuesday in Nyahururu, officials said.

Nyahururu Sub-country police commander Geoffrey Mayek said the teenager, identified as Sammy Kuria, was reportedly connecting electricity from a house to a borehole in Warero village on Tuesday evening when the accident happened.

"A relative found the teenager lying on the ground next to the borehole. He reported the matter to Ng'arua police station,” said Mr Mayek.

The police boss said investigation into the teenager’s death has been opened.

"Police and Kenya Power officials visited the scene and investigations has been commenced," said the police boss.

Residents have since been urged to report any power hiccups in their homes and also avoid illegal power connections to avert such incidents.

The body of the victim was taken to Sipili Funeral Home awaiting a post-mortem examination.
