Former Kitui Governor Julius Malombe's wife dies after short illness

The family of former Kitui Governor Julius Malombe is mourning the sudden death of his wife Mama Edith Mawia Malombe.

The former First lady of Kitui County died abruptly on Tuesday evening after she suffered what doctors suspect could have been a heart attack.

A brief statement released by the family on Wednesday morning confirmed Mrs Malombe’s death saying further details will be communicated later.

She was an advocate of the High Court before quitting the Judiciary for private practice.

Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu led the county in mourning Mrs Malombe eulogizing her as a dedicated servant who worked tirelessly in addressing gaps in reproductive health services during her time as First Lady of Kitui County.

“I have learned with profound shock and sadness about the passing on of Mama Edith Mawia Malombe, the wife my predecessor and the first Governor of Kitui Dr Julius Malombe,” Governor Ngilu said in her message of condolence.

“On behalf of the County Government and all people of Kitui as well as on my own behalf, I wish to convey our heartfelt condolences to Dr Malombe and the family, to the Ithiani Community, and to all relatives and friends of the family.”

During her husband’s tenure as Governor, Mrs Malombe was an active participant in county affairs where she ran charity initiatives in health sector, and supporting orphans in Kitui.
