A 40 year-old man accused of murdering his expectant wife was Wednesday arraigned before the Kisii Law Courts.

Lucas Bosire is said to have hit his seven months pregnant wife with a blunt object on the head while she was taking a bath. She died on the spot.

The incident occurred on Monday at 9 pm.  It is not clear why the suspect hit his wife. The incident took place at the couple’s home in Bosike village, Bomariba sub-location, Kisii South Sub County.

Bosire appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate Paul Mutai. Investigating officers had sought more time to hold the suspect as they probe the incident.

"We are asking the court to grant us more time to hold the suspect in the police cells as we conduct investigations and allow time for post-mortem," said Mr Victor Maloba, the investigating officer from Gesonso Police Station.

The court granted the application to hold the suspect for 14 days. Mr Mutai said the allegations are serious and involving murder.

"Your security won't be granted and that of the witnesses if you are released on bond," the magistrate told the suspect.

The case will continue on January 27, 2022.

The suspect was frog marched to Igonga Police Station by villagers. He was later transferred to Gesonso Police Station.
