A man took his own life on Wednesday following a domestic quarrel at Karagara village in Kirinyaga County.

According to family members the lifeless body of James Waweru, 32, was found dangling from the roof of his house on Wednesday evening.

Mr Waweru, who appeared depressed, arrived home on Tuesday night and picked a quarrel with his wife. During the quarrel, Waweru is reported to have threatened to kill his wife and their two children.

Sensing danger, the wife, Pauline Muthoni, took off with her children, leaving Mr Waweru alone in the house.

The following day Mr Waweru was found dead with a leso tied around his neck.

"He came home wielding a kitchen knife and threatened to kill me together with my children. Fearing for our live, I took my children and fled," Ms Muthoni recollected.

Death threats

Ms Muthoni said she doesn't understand why her husband wanted to harm her and their children.

“It is true we had a quarrel, after which my husband threatened to stab everyone in the family to death. He looked disturbed," she added.

A relative, Mr John Njoroge, recalled how he heard screams and rushed to the scene only to find the body of the victim dangling from the roof with family members wailing uncontrollably.

Police moved the body to Kibugi Funeral home in Kutus town.

A police officer at the scene said investigations had commenced into the incident.
