Kirinyaga police probe mysterious burning of detained car
The car which was burned under mysterious circumstances at Wang'uru Police Station in Kirinyaga County.

Police have launched investigations into the mysterious burning of a car which had been detained at Wang'uru Police Station in Kirinyaga County.
The Toyota Sienta car belonging to Mr David Murimi, a local businessman, had been detained at the station after it was involved in an accident in which a police officer was killed. Mr Murimi was also injured during the accident which happened in April along the Embu-Makutano road and was admitted to hospital.
The trader was shocked when he visited the station on Saturday and found the vehicle had been set on fire and reduced to a shell.
"After recovering from injuries inflicted during the accident, I have been asking the police to release my vehicle from the station but they would not agree," he narrated.
He recalled how that Saturday one of the officers informed him that his vehicle had been set on fire by unknown people.
Demand for compensation
Mr Murimi demanded that he be compensated for the loss.
He wondered how his car could be burnt and the arsonists escape unnoticed in a police station which is guarded round the clock.
Mr Murimi said he suspected foul play and vowed to fight until the truth of the matter is established.
Mwea East Police Commander Emmanual Opuru told the trader to be patient and wait for the conclusion of the investigations.
“We have commenced investigations with a view to establishing what really transpired," he added.
Mr Opuru admitted that the car was towed to the station after the fatal accident which claimed the life of an officer who was based in the area and left four people injured.
“I was posted to the station after the accident took place but the trader should not be worried as we are conducting investigations so as to find out what caused the fire which burnt his car," he added.
