Fourteen mourners were on January 4, 2022 injured after this matatu rolled in Sotik on the border of Kericho and Nyamira counties.

Fourteen mourners have been injured in an accident that occurred in Sotik on the border of Kericho and Nyamira counties.

Six of the victims with various degrees of injuries were referred to Kapkatet Sub-County Hospital in Bureti constituency, Kericho County.

"The accident occurred at midday near Arroket area on the border of Kericho and Nyamira counties," said a senior police officer from Nyamira County who declined to be named as he is not authorised to speak to the press on record.

Eight of the mourners involved in the accident and who sustained minor injuries were treated at Arroket Dispensary, which is owned by Sotik Highlands Tea Company, and discharged.

"The mourners were travelling from Sondu area in Nyando Sub-County, Kisumu County for a funeral in Chebilat in Nyamira County when the accident occurred," said the police officer.

The driver of the matatu operated by Enoma Luxe Transport Company lost control of the vehicle and it rolled several times before stopping in the middle of the road.

Locals rushed to the rescue of the victims and took them to the nearby clinic where they were given first aid.

Details of their injuries were not immediately available while the police were yet to tow the wreckage of the vehicle from the scene of the accident.
