Detectives in Kajiado County are investigating the death of an 11-year-old girl who went missing two months ago.

Priscilla Naserian, a Grade Four pupil of Engarboli Primary School, was reported missing after leaving her grandmother's home in Namanga for her home in Maili Tisa.

She did not reach her destination.

On Monday evening, herdsmen reported coming across human bones and a black dress in a bush in Maili Tisa, about two kilometers from a path leading to the girl's grandmother's home.

A basket that contained a shawl, ornaments, a pair of rubber shoes and a bottle of milk were found 500 meters away.

The items matched what was in a package the girl carried from her grandmother's house.

Kajiado Sub-county Police Commander David Loronyokwe said an investigation was opened.

"We are yet to know if the girl was murdered or attacked and mauled by wild animals," said Loronyokwe.

He urges parents to be cautious and avoid sending their children far away from home without supervision.

The remains were taken to Kajiado County Referral Hospital mortuary.
