The face of Kajiado towns has begun to change following several infrastructural projects by the new Kajiado and Ngong municipalities.

The two municipalities were formed last year through an executive order by Governor Joseph ole Lenku.

He ordered the Department of Lands, Physical Planning and Urban Development relinquish some of its functions to the municipalities chaired by Mr Patrick Mugo (Ngong) and Dr Leina Mpoke (Kajiado).

The businesses had suffered due to muddy streets that kept clients away.

Some of the new tarmac roads have reduced traffic jams.

The 1.4-kilometre bypass from Magadi Road through Kiserian Primary School has done away with gridlocks at the Kiserian Total junction.

The Milele-Kobil Road in Ngong, the Juanco Junction-Ole Polos Centre Road as well as the Cleanshelf Supermarket-Kware Saitoti Road in Ongata Rongai are complete.

Kajiado town, which had two tarmacked streets, is another beneficiary of the programme. The KCB ground and the KCB-Cooperative roads, which cut across the town centre have reduced congestion.

Traffic problem has been addressed by the connection between the main town and Majengo slums from the Cooperative Bank junction.

Mr Lenku praised the efforts put into infrastructural development.

“We are determined to speed up priority projects to ensure the environment of doing business in our towns is conducive. We fully support the municipalities and their 2021/21 fiscal year projects,” Governor Lenku told the boards of the municipalities, his Cabinet as well as ward representatives at a workshop in Mombasa Friday.

The governor said he is leading other leaders to lobby for the establishment of Kitengela municipality.
