A 40-year-old man has been arrested after he allegedly defiled a four- year-old girl in Rachuonyo South, Homa Bay County.

Accompanied by officers from Oyugis Police Station, Kawino Sub-Location Assistant Chief Joel Owenga arrested the suspect who is said to have been caught in the act by the victim’s grandmother.

The suspect defiled the minor as her grandmother was harvesting rain water. The girl had visited her grandmother in Kong’ondo Village on Saturday.

“Both the suspect and the victim are frequent visitors at the house. The suspect has inherited the victim’s grandmother after the death of her husband and so he visits her a lot,” the administrator said.

He is reported to have grabbed the minor and dragged her to the bedroom where he allegedly defiled her.

“Residents who were armed with crude weapons were baying for his (suspect’s) blood. They wanted to lynch the suspect, so I had to call police to rescue him,” Mr Owenga said.

The administrator said that the suspect, who admitted to committing the heinous act, blamed evil forces for pushing him to defile the minor.  He will be charged in court tomorrow.
